Government Motor Transport

Government Motor Transport (GMT) is a fleet management entity within the Western Cape Mobility Department, providing fleet management and mobility solutions to diverse client institutions. Our role is to innovate and enable effective fleet solution services to our clients in pursuit of creating a better life for all. We are part of a broader mobility ecosystem driving the future narrative of mobility in the province and the country, focused on creating connections and communities of impact through effective and regenerative approaches to mobility in context.

What we do

As one of the country’s leading government fleet management entities, Government Motor Transport’s (GMT) core business is centred around providing quality, integrated and cost-effective mobility solutions to Provincial and National client institutions. By equipping and providing our clients with vehicles, the necessary skill sets and systems to manage them, our services enable impactful and essential service delivery beyond provincial borders. Our services enable our clients to reach diverse communities, connecting people to services through various mobility solutions that enable better access to their core offerings, from health and emergency services to education and traffic services.

Our three core directorates

FLEET SERVICES oversees all aspects related to the efficient operation of the GMT fleet. It comprises three sub-directorates, each playing a crucial role in enabling operations, managing repairs and maintenance, and risk management.

FLEET FINANCE provides comprehensive, effective and responsible financial services to GMT through its three sub-directorates, financial accounting, management accounting, and internal control.

MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SERVICES play a vital role in providing essential support services to GMT, which include statutory reporting and stakeholder relations, office support services, and ICT.

Fleet repairs and maintenance

We facilitate servicing and repairs of vehicles.

Quality assurance

We check services and suppliers to maintain quality.

Accidents and recoveries

We manage accident cases and vehicle recovery.

Accidents and claims against the state

We handle claims involving government vehicles.

Losses

We process and track any losses related to government fleet vehicles.

Fleet violations

We monitor traffic fines and penalties for fleet vehicles.

Misuse

We act when vehicles are used outside of approved purposes.

Fraud and irregularities

We detect and deal with fraud or irregular use of fleet resources.
